Last night it was hubby's turn to sleep in the kitchen and look after the pupps, and thank goodness he was there - one of the puppies escaped out of the whelping box, and was on the cold floor!!!!!!!!!!! Could have been very nasty. Thankfully Nigel was woken by her crying and popped her back in the box with her Mum and the others. Imagine her escaping - she hasn't even got her eyes open yet! I can see that one is going to be trouble, anyone want her? Puppy for Sale. Going cheap - well, perhaps not :)
Through the night after each feed off their Mum, they sought of fall off, and land on their backs with their fat bellies, and wave their legs in the air, like they are drunk. They look so hillarious. And if you tickle them under the chin one of the back legs starts waving much the same as an adult dog will scratch with their leg unintentionally if you find just the right spot. They will squeek as they sleep, and dream, doesn't help if you are trying to get 40 winks yourself.
Hard to leave them today and go back to work. However my Mum is staying with us so she has the job of puppy-sitting while I am at work. If she weren't with us I would be at home for a further week. Popped home at lunchtime to check and all is good. I will upload some more photos, on the French Bulldog Latest Litter page. Please take a look. TTFN. Five beautiful puppies arrived in the wee small hours of Sunday morning. They are adorable. There are two dark brindle (almost black) with white patches on the chest, and a white strip between the eyes - very striking markings. And the other three are a light colour, almost silver, with a darker strip down the middle of their backs, a bit like a racoon, they look quite distinctive. There are three girls and two boys. Taylor (and I) haven't had alot of sleep since their arrival. We have them in a special whelping box in the corner of the kitchen, and I have an airbed and I sleep on that beside them to make sure no-one is squashed through the night. You have no idea how noisy it is to sleep in the kitchen, damn fridge keeps on going, and then as I am just about to sleep Taylor will start to snore! And talk about LOUD. Bulldogs snore, let me tell you that right now, they snore, and they snore loudly. None of this gentle stuff, we are talking window rattling snoring (or was that an earthquake?). Or else she will decide at 3.00 am that she is going to clean them. We have the cleanest puppies in all of New Zealand. She cleans, and she cleans, until about 4.45 am when I have had enough of listening to this (because she ain't quiet about that either) and I growl at her to settle down to go to sleep. So it is a busy and tiring time. Will get back to you soon. Ali.
Well, we all got shaken up with the 5.1 earthquake early this morning. Very nasty, everyone got out of bed very quickly. After checking on everyone in the house, Taylor was the very next one to be checked up on. She, like all our dogs, were a bit agitated. We have had several fairly large aftershocks since that big one this morning. We are keeping a close eye on Taylor, she isn't due for another few days, however when the quakes are coming close together like this nature has a way of bringing them on early. Fingers crossed that the quakes settle down again soon, and that Taylor can spend the next few days resting. We will all be busy soon enough. Ta ta for now.
Hi ya. Our Frenchie is pregnant, due to whelp in two weeks time. She is getting very matronly, and is full of the love-bug, very cuddly, which is lovely because all she usually wants to do is play. With a ball, a stick, the hose, the broom, whatever she can get hold of really. Any of the pups chew toys become hers too. She's not very good at sharing, although we have told her that in a couple of weeks she will have a whole lot of new toys to play with :) Looking forward to the happy event. Will tell you more about it later.
